"Music has been the constant, but I’ve come to realise that it’s always been about something more."

"It’s taken me years of exploration, collaboration, play and building self confidence to realise that."

JOURNEY

My journey to this point has involved dedication to the craft; studying others’ expressive form, learning the techniques I heard on their records, recording thousands of my own compositions and hundreds of those written by other people. Along the way, I’ve also been able to further my understanding by working with and alongside artists whose work I grew up listening to.

Over time, I’ve come to understand that finding my own creative voice - as a singer, songwriter and mix engineer - has been the most rewarding and challenging part of my work. Helping others find a way to believe in their own voice has become one of the most meaningful ways I use what I’ve learned.

“Creativity is not a rare ability. It is fundamental to human nature.”

Rick Rubin

TEACHING

Alongside my drive to continue growing as a creative and collaborator runs a commitment to supporting the development of children. This has led to over six years working and volunteering creatively in education across schools, SEN settings, colleges and universities, supporting children and young adults in developing confidence and expression.

CLIC SARGENT

Working with CLIC Sargent as a music facilitator and mentor, I worked closely with groups of 16–24 year-olds, helping to develop their ideas into finished pieces of work they could share with friends, family and wider audiences - including live performances and CD releases.

As a musician who had toured internationally across Europe, North America, Canada and Australia, and featured on live radio sessions for BBC Radio 2 and Jazz FM, I was also able to support the charity at Glastonbury Festival - helping to secure backstage experiences for service users across the John Peel, Other and Pyramid stages.

The work I did with CLIC Sargent between 2007–2014 was where I began to see more clearly how my musical work and my work with others could sit alongside each other.

ROLES

As a producer, recording engineer, videographer and photographer, I’ve worked across a wide range of settings - from professional studios to live music venues, as well as schools, homes, farms, cathedrals and temporary setups built wherever they were needed. Over time, that range has made one thing clear: equipment and environment have their place, but the most important factor is always the people involved, and the space they feel comfortable stepping into.

I’m most fulfilled working with others toward a shared outcome. Alongside educational and performance-based work, I’ve also worked in more fast-paced environments, including Boomtown Festival, where I worked within Internal Artist Transport and became Head of Internal Transport Operations in 2015.

PURPOSE

Music isn’t just something to refine or perfect, in order that I might further my own career. Music is a wonderful and powerful way to facilitate the empowering of others; so that they might have experiences, insights and recognition that otherwise may have seemed impossible.
